For use by taught graduate students who are resubmitting and research students at the end of their period of registration.

Automatic access to IS facilities ends for research students in their writing up period and for taught postgradute students who must submit.

Access can be restored on payment of the appropriate fee and the signing of this registration form.

Brief

From October 2013, PhD students who are writing up their thesis are not registered as full time students. They are no longer required to be resident in Aberystwyth or to study on a full-time basis and many will go into full-time employment while completing their thesis. The University does not, therefore, provide automatic excemtion from Council Tax to full-time PhD students after their registration period ends. Instead, they will be liable to pay Council Tax depending on the amount of time they spend on their thesis.

Brief

Please refer to the guidelines for extensions of higher degree time limits when completing this form. A full and reasoned case supported by appropriate medical or other independent evidence must be made by the department for consideration by the head of the graduate school. A statement showing progress in the thesis and a schedule of the work required to complete the thesis within the proposed extension must accompany the form.

ALL RESEARCH STUDENTS SUBMITTING OR RE-SUBMITTING THEIR THESIS MUST COMPLETE THIS FORM

The intention to submit form should be completed and returned to the Academic Quality and Records Office up to 3 months and at least 1 month before the thesis is submitted.

Students and departments should be aware that completing the form less than one month prior to sending the thesis to the Academic Quality and Records Office or with missing or incomplete information may result in a delay in dispatching the thesis to the examiners.
